Bioleaching of Uranium Tailings as Secondary Sources for Rare Earth Elements Production

نویسندگان

چکیده

Tailings from inactive uranium mine sites represent a potential secondary source of rare earth elements (REEs). For this study, two tailings (DT and RAT) restored in Ontario, Canada, were used. Bioleaching experiments conducted with mix native sulfur- iron-oxidizing bacteria to test the solubilization REEs, U Th at different temperatures (20, 30 40 °C). The selective recovery REEs bioleaching solution was evaluated using ion exchange resins. mineralogical characterization revealed that DT mainly composed quartz, pyrite, gypsum silicates, whereas RAT quartz. maximum heavy light (HREEs LREEs, respectively), reached 54%, 6%, 60% 51% for after 35 days pH 2, T = °C pulp density 10% (w/v). Higher extraction yields obtained DT, 58% HREEs, 14% 85% 89% solubilized under same conditions. use Lewatit TP272 resin Sc (94%) (99%) followed by SP112 (57%) (81% LREEs 65% HREEs) seemed promising method co-extraction key solution.

Bioleaching of rare earth elements from monazite sand.

Three fungal strains were found to be capable of bioleaching rare earth elements from monazite, a rare earth phosphate mineral, utilizing the monazite as a phosphate source and releasing rare earth cations into solution. These organisms include one known phosphate solubilizing fungus, Aspergillus niger ATCC 1015, as well as two newly isolated fungi: an Aspergillus terreus strain ML3-1 and a Pae...

Rare Earth Elements Profile

Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...

Coal fly ash as a resource for rare earth elements

Rare earth elements (REE) have been recognised as critical raw materials, crucial for many clean technologies. As the gap between their global demand and supply increases, the search for their alternative resources becomes more and more important, especially for the countries which depend highly on their import. Coal fly ash (CFA), which when not utilised is considered waste, has been regarded ...

Biosorption of Uranium and Rare Earth Elements Using Biomass of Algae

In order to investigate the behavior of rare earth elements (REEs) and uranium (U) in marine organism, the concentrations of REEs and U in some brown algae samples taken on the coast of Niigata Prefecture were determined. In addition, laboratory model experiment to uptake these elements using living and dried algae (Undaria pinnatifida and Sargassum hemiphyllum) was also carried out to survey t...

Analytical .use of Arsenazo Iii Determination of Thorium, Zirconium, Uranium and Rare Earth Elements

The reagent arsenazo III (1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulphonic acid-2,7-bis[(azo2)-phenylarsonic acid]) gives marked colour reactions with a number of elements. Anions affect the reaction only to a slight degree and it is possible to work at low pH values; the reaction is very sensitive and the compound can thus be used for the photometric determination of Th, Zr, I-If, U, rare earths, and ...
